Apprenticeships & Traineeships

 *************************************

2009 Apprenticeship & Traineeship Intake:

Thank you for your interest in working with Anglo Coal Australia.

Intention of the Apprenticeship & Traineeship role:

Apprenticeships & Traineeships are intended to fill a gap in our skill base at our coal operations.  During your time, you will be a useful member of the team, supporting mining technical staff in a number of hands-on duties.

Whilst you have a potential career path into Engineering, Anglo Coal Australia Pty Ltd can accommodate the long term in the Engineering support role.

It is expected most Apprentices and Trainees will work on the appropriate roster as part of their crew timetable.

Employment:

Anglo Coal mine sites are not always the employers of Apprentices and Trainees – we can be the host sites.  Your employment would be through our preferred Training Provider MRAEL or the Gladstone Area Group Scheme to whom you will be indentured  and who take care of all administrative processes, training plans and block releases for the attainment of nationally recognised competencies.

However, please note that with our Drayton, Foxleigh, Moranbah and Callide Mine sites, you will be engaged as an Anglo Coal Australia Pty Ltd employee.

What Apprenticeships does Anglo Coal Australia Pty Ltd offer:

  • Mechanical – diesel fitters, boilermaker/welders, fitters and turners
  • Electrical – electricians, electronic tradespersons

What Traineeships does Anglo Coal Australia Pty Ltd offer:

  • Administration
  • Warehousing
  • Coal Processing
  • Supply

How and when do I apply?

Our 2009 Apprenticeship & Traineeship Intake will commence between July  – November 2008.

Advertising will be in the local newspaper and our website – just follow the instructions on how to apply.

Applications can also be made via the Anglocoal Australia website.

It is intended that all Apprentices & Trainees will commence on sites early January 2009 for an orientation and induction. Please note that no accommodation is provided in the Hunter Valley or Biloela (CQ).  Where available some CQ sites may have Single Person Quarters (SPQ)/Camp style accommodation available.

Training Structure:

You will undertake structured training in working areas of the mine and rotation of duties to maximise your exposure to various facets of the operation.

Anglo Coal Support and Commitment:

Anglo Coal will support the Apprentices and Trainees with time off for block release training.

Site Support:

Apprentices will most likely be between the age of 15 and 19 or a mature age person and looking for an entry point into the Mining industry.   The Site HR team will be responsible for appointing a mentor and seeing that the Apprentice & Trainee will have regular contact from their GM and HR Manager.  The mentor will guide and support the Apprentice and Trainee in such matters as their job duties, studies and broader lifestyle and participation at the site.

Ideal Incumbent:

Anglo will be targeting young people, predominently from regional/rural communities who have a strong interest in remaining in a mining community long-term.  They may be a school leaver or have some work experience.  They may also be a local person looking for a career change.

Some of the criteria you might need to consider in your application:

Selection Process and Timetable:
