1. Anglo Coal Australia Scholarship
Anglo Coal Australia believes strongly in the importance of assisting our future technical specialists and leaders to get the best from their education. We have developed scholarship programs that aim to support students financially throughout their university degrees and to develop ongoing relationships with students that will forge future careers with Anglo Coal Australia. Our scholarship programs assist students to learn about our business and the mining industry and aid students in getting the most from their studies through practical experience. Family members of Anglo Coal employees are encouraged to apply.
Anglo Coal Australia offers scholarships to university students studying a recognised tertiary degree in the following disciplines:
- Mining Engineering
- Minerals Processing Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Environmental Science or Engineering
- Geology
- Surveying
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Accounting/Finance
- Human Resources
2. Anglo Coal Australia, Mitsui Coal Holdings Pty Ltd and AFS launch a new scholarship -
The Akito Sumibo Scholarship was established by Anglo Coal Australia Pty Ltd and Mitsui Coal Holdings Pty Ltd to honour the memory of Akito Sumibo who died in July 2004.
In partnership with AFS Intercultural Programs, the scholarship will cover the full participation fee of an eight week intensive exchange program to Japan departing in December 2008. The Scholarship is open to high school students in Australia between the age of 15 to 18 years including children of Anglo Coal Australia and Mitsui employees.

Eligibility Criteria:
University students must be:
- Either Australian citizens or permanent residents in Australia
- Studying a relevant degree (as listed above) at an Australian tertiary institution.
- Are not under bond or committed in any way to an employer, or a holder of another scholarship of significant value
- Wish to pursue a career in the mining industry
- Full time students studying a 100% loading according to the universities subject weighting policies.
- Maintain a GPA of a credit or above with tertiary results
Each tertiary scholarship will provide the recipient with $7,000 per annum (dependant upon meeting the requirements of the scholarship program), for the course of their degree (maximum 4 years) plus at least 1 vacation work placement with one of our operations. Students are encouraged to apply during their first year of university and up to their penultimate year.
Recipients of our Scholarships are not guaranteed employment with Anglo Coal Australia on completing of their studies, however, are required to apply for a position on the Anglo Coal Graduate Program as per the conditions of the Scholarship Program.
Applications for our 2008 Scholarship Programs will open on 1 July 2008
