Dartbrook

Anglo Coal Dartbrook Management on May 18, 2006 announces that due to ongoing geological difficulties it intends to implement a 'phased reduction of operations' at the Dartbrook undergound mine leading to placement of the mine under 'Care and Maintenance'.

A project team has been appointed to assess future mining options for the Dartbrook mining lease area. Whilst this assessment takes place, the care and maintenance phase of operations will continue.

As a result, there are currently no employment opportunities at the mine. This web page will be regularly updated with information on the on-going development of the Dartbrook mining lease.

Community Our employees live in a number of rural/regional communities located up to an hour away from the mine. Those communities, including Muswellbrook, Scone, Aberdeen, Singleton and Denman boast some of the best sporting and cultural facilities, for communities of their size, that can be found anywhere in Australia.

The region is well serviced with education facilities. There are seven high schools in the region - public, private and Catholic. There are three TAFE colleges, and the University of Newcastle all providing further options.

The Hunter Valley is also the home of the horse capital of Australia, with Scone hosting some of the most prestigious equestrian events - racing, polo eventing and horse studs. The World Heritage Listed Barrington Tops provide many opportunities for bushwalking and camping. The Hunter Valley is also a world famous wine producing region - famous for its Semillion - which supports a booming tourism sector that has world class restaurants and golf courses all within an hours drive of the mine.

Dartbrook supports many community initiatives. Dartbrook has been significant supporter of Father Chris Riley's Youth Off the Streets Program (YOTS). Since 1999, Dartbrook has provided a house to YOTS as a base for its work of giving "troubled kids" a new start and a new future, away from the destructive and damaging family or social environments they may have been in.

Whilst actively supporting local schools, Dartbrook is also a sponsor of the Aberdeen Highland Games - a celebration of all sports Scottish - kabar toss and haggis throwing; the Upper Hunter Show, the Advancing Aberdeen Committee and the Aberdeen Progress Association and Chamber of Commerce.
