Monash Energy

Monash Energy (Monash Energy Holdings Ltd) manages the Monash Energy Project as a member of the Anglo American plc group of companies.

The core of the project is a large scale commercial plant in Victoria Latrobe Valley. Coal is taken from Monash Energy’s own mine and is then dried and gasified for conversion into transport fuels.

An innovative part of the project aims to reduce greenhouse emissions and impacts of climate change by applying advanced brown coal drying and gasification technologies to produce large volumes of ultra-clean synthetic diesel.

In parallel with the development of the plant and mine, there is progress towards the requisite infrastructure for carbon capture and storage, to be governed by an effective regulatory regime.

The Monash Energy project is currently undergoing thorough pre-feasibility investigation, trials, evaluation and planning for adoption of these advanced technologies.
